Wishing you a breathtaking New Year

This moment marks a powerful beginning. It is a time of fresh exploration and deep reflection for me: a season to question my personal life direction, the societal norms that shape our communities, and the coming year for Earthskin itself.

On a personal level, the arrival of my 80th year heralds transition, redirection, and the grace of letting go.

I’ve come to see this past chapter as a sacred breathing process. An inward breath—creating stability, energy, and revitalised vigor—has gone into the land and home over the last four years. Now, with a gentle outward breath, there is release. The magic of this shared, revitalised, beloved home is ready to be passed to the next generation of kaitiaki.

Both the seen and unseen have been lovingly tended and protected. The land has been fed and expanded with herbs, fairy spaces, sacred pathways, trees, and gardens. Just as importantly, I am learning to limit my endless projects—an act of kindness to myself.

A new piece of my life is now opening. By making space for the outward breath, I am preparing for a new, consciously planned adventure—one shaped by trust, gratitude, and curiosity for what lies ahead.

May this new year offer you clarity, renewal, and meaningful beginnings of your own.

Life Between Two Homes

After a few recent falls, practicality has guided me towards making the move to sell the Warkworth property. I am now living part‑time in beautiful Matakana Village, happily nestled beside my daughter Vanessa.

I do miss my trees, and I find myself zipping home daily to greet my big green family - each plant and tree recognised on my morning walks - as I tend to the house and its vibrant life-filled gardens.

Scholarships, Residencies & What’s Ahead

Our two cherished centres—The Waygood at Piha and Earthskin Warkworth - continue to thrive. This year, I’m giving myself the freedom to attend gatherings and conventions, weaving Earthskin into the wider network of Charitable Trusts committed to a nature‑centred, cooperative future. Together, we are re‑imagining thriving ecological, social, and business systems - creating fruitful relationships with the Earth and with each other.

Permaculture Scholarship applications are already arriving for our April intake, and travelling artists continue to appear, almost magically, for short environmental residencies (and the occasional chicken‑feeding shift).

Earthskin provides annual scholarships to support students with limited resources, helping them access life‑changing education and creative opportunities. Your support - individually or as a group - means so much, especially in the current economic climate. Together, we can uplift the next generation of environmental guardians, teachers, and leaders.

Earthskin contributes to:

  • Permaculture Design Course – Earthskin donates $500

  • Earth & Natural Building Education (aligned with NZ 4298 standards)

  • Ecological Artist Residencies at Piha and Earthskin Warkworth

We, and the students, rely on and are deeply grateful for any support you can offer. Please click here to make a donation.

xxx Nancy
